Just received sad news. The bassoonist who I played beside for nearly 10 years just passed away two days ago. He had told me that he had cancer in the winter but I assumed that he was going to beat it and that we would be back sitting beside each other at rehearsal in a week. My goodness, what a difference the summer makes. So many changes and not all of them good.
I will be going to the funeral which is the least that I can do. Hard to believe that this has happened.
Hope that Ralph did not suffer too much at the end.

He had beaten it, it was very very early stage prostate cancer (he had decided to have it zapped so it would never become a problem). The only other thing he had was some high blood pressure kept well under control by medications and he was very vigilant about his health. Whatever had happened, it was very sudden and quick in his sleep. I know we are all thankful that it was painless and peaceful. I know it was a huge shock, he was a very close friend of mine and we played together in Northdale. He will be missed by many people....
